I never thought I would be able to say 'the Red Sox won the World Series' never mind that they rattled off eight straight wins, blowing away the Yankees then dominating the winningest team of the'04 season.

All I can figure is that the ghost of the Bambino went out and got completely loaded on that faithful Saturday night when the Yankees played home run derby at Fenway, passed out in an alley somewhere in the bowels of Kenmore Square and hasn't woken up since.

That game was clearly a total catharsis for the Red Sox. It was the pinnacle of all misery, getting stomped right to the edge of elimination by the Yankees. In Fenway. Again. All the negativity of 86 years of missed opportunities and painful losses went into that 19-8 drubbing. That was rock bottom, so then where else could the Sox go but up? And man did they go up. Absolutely amazing.
