Unexpected

I entered the ReUSEIT contest strictly for the challenge and for fun. I absolutely didn’t expect to be the first runner up! I’m very surprised and really honored.

A well deserved first prize went to Mike Pick for his sophisticated yet personable design. In addition to the clean look and really nice graphics, I really like the way Mike organized the content on the page, which was a challenge in itself.

Visually, there are definitely a few things I would change about my entry. First and foremost, I would have made sure that I spelled the man’s name correctly in the damn logo :-p. It’s funny, you know, you look at a thing for so long and tiny but embarrassingly obvious details slip by. Lucky for me it wasn’t spelling contest. I’m pretty embarrassed for not catching that, but c’est la vie. It’s fixed now. (Dammit. OK now it’s fixed.) Second, I would change the section below the Alertbox. I used way too many of those fading headers there. I would probably bring back “permanent content” as the main header for that section and use sub-headers for each point, like in the Alertbox and News sections. I’m sure there are a lot more little tweaks I’d get into as well if I did it again or if this were a continuing project.

This was a fun project. I want to give a round of applause to everybody who entered and say thanks to Bob for all his hard work pulling the contest together.
