1. In development:
After a long stay in the idea garage, Engine Graphics, the business branch of jmb.com will launch in November with a full site to replace the current ‘interim’ site. Need a website? How about a logo? How about both?
And, coming around spring 2004, a new idea from the mind that brought you SNEBloggers.com : Provarts.org - Online gallery space for Providence area artists. This is still in the way early stages of development, so there aren’t any real concrete details yet. Stay tuned for more info.
2. Over the weekend I upgraded my Moveable Type installation from 2.5 to 2.64 and installed the essential MT-Textile and SmartyPants plug-ins. If you’re using Moveable Type and you haven’t already installed these plug-ins (that is, if you’re months behind the curve like me) I highly recommend doing so. It’ll make writing entries much faster and easier.
3. After an abysmal summer movie season, I’m happy to suddenly have an ever-growing must see list. For starters:
Lost In Translation
Kill Bill
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Mystic River
Matchstick Men
My Life Without Me
Elephant
American Splendor
4. New versions of Adobe’s flagship apps! I’m only semi-excited. What Do I Know has raised some interesting points about the awkward branding decision to drop numbered versioning in favor of “CS” (Creative Suite). While I agree that it’s kind of a muddy solution, I honestly don’t care what they call it, I just want a version of Illustrator that is fast and stable under Mac OS X. Stopdesign gives an interesting perspective to that end. Maybe the reason version 10 is a stabbing nightmare of deathly slow performance and unexpected quits is that there are too many ‘new features’ causing Microsoft-ian bloat. I’m all for new features, but not at the expense of performance. I deeply hope Illustrator CS improves on the situation rather than making it worse.
5. I’m also working on a lot of changes around here. This has been a long one already so I’ll spare you the details, but watch for new home, portfolio and information pages, new icons on the spare parts page and possibly a color shift here and there.
Oh yeah, there’s a new soundtrack up. That’s it, lots to do…
