So I realize I just said I wasn't going to write about Apple stuff anymore - unless something hits me. Well man, two 2 GHz processors, 8 gb of RAM, 64-bits, 1GHz frontside bus, a 160 gb hard drive and on and on packed inside an ultra sleek, minimalist-sculpture-like case, hits me like a brick. Time to start saving the pennies.
The embarrassingly lame OS X Blues haiku's (what the hell is the plural form of haiku anyway? haikus, haiku's, haiki, whatever) you see in the previous post are based on my experiences running OS X 10.2.6 on a 450 MHz G4 with 1 gb of RAM. While this is a peppy set up for running OS 9.2, it's at the low end of the scale for OS X, especially when working with large Photoshop and Illustrator files. Photoshop, Illustrator and OS X crave tremedous amounts of memory and processing power to run effectively, so really it's just not enough. I imagine this “eats-Pentiums-for-breakfast” monster would make any power related frustrations a thing of the past. Absolutely awesome.
I also really like the decision to release Safari 1.0 independently of Panther. In light of Microsoft's decision to roll IE into the OS and make users wait two years for an udated version and pay for it, it seems like a “yet another reason why we're better” type of move.
So many excellent things (Font Book!) were introduced yesterday at the WWDC my head is still spinning. Check Brian Jepson's minute by minute coverage for a run down. And of course watch the rebroadcast of the keynote.
