About this site.
This is the personal website of Jonathan Macy Biggs - artist, graphic/web designer, car enthusiast, etc. located in Seekonk, MA. Contents here include my "weblog", or "journal" if you prefer, called Motor Skills, my portfolio of paintings and drawings, some free icons and desktop backgrounds and lots of rambling on about music I listen to.
This site is coded by hand using valid xhtml and css. Markup is edited using a great little Mac application called PageSpinner. Motor Skills is powered by the awesome Movable Type. iTunes track information is powered by Kung-Tunes. Graphics are, of course, created with Photoshop and Illustrator. Hosting is provided by the very reliable and inexpensive Your-Site.I use Macintosh computers. Specifically a 14" 600 MHz iBook running OS X 10.2.8. I would never even remotely consider using a Windows based machine for anything other than browser testing and/or dust collection.
About Motor Skills
Back in 1995 I put together a little free 'zine called Motor Skills. The intention was to get some of the writing that was in my head out on paper and maybe entertain people. I wanted to talk about
life, music, art, bmx, cars and whatever else in a way that (hopefully) others could relate to and enjoy. The automotive theme is just something that has always been with me. From an early age I have enjoyed the smell of gasoline and exhaust. My father was a hot rod enthusiast and drag racer in the fifties and owned just about every issue of Hot Rod Magazine. The issues from the fifties and sixties are chock full of great source material.
Long story short, I put together only one issue and gave it to some of my friends. They seemed to like it and I was encouraged but never really got around to making another. All I have left from that first attempt is the cover (shown here). The original content has been lost somewhere between then and now.
The weblog is the digital reincarnation of the Motor Skills concept. In the journal section you will find thoughts on life, music, art, bmx, cars, and other ravings. Music is very important to me and I talk about it a lot so, also see “soundtrack” where anyone who cares can gain insight to what I’m listening to and how it inspires me. Music content is mostly punk, emo, hardcore and metal, but I also get really into jazz and blues sometimes. It is my goal to always write in an interesting and engaging way. I do my best to live up to that with every post. Please read and enjoy, I will try to update semi–daily.
